unicode, utf, multibyte?

Hi!

Looking through the yahoo archives, I saw a discussion from
last summer about the "maybe" of  multibyte support in JED.

John, I wonder if this issue has gotten any further. Do you
think we will see utf support in a "near" future? The reason 
I ask is that as I've started working on Windows 2000 and 
doing some XML documentation and both these activities means 
fiddling in unicode environments.
